| A rich selection from one of the funniest books in the English language - in fact one of the funniest books about the English language. The book derives from Pedro Carolino's 'Guide to the Conversation in Portuguese and English' published in 1869. It seems that Carolino's knowledge of English was little more than that furnished by a French-English dictionary and was a greater contribution to humour than linguistics. |
